Signs You Should Hire a Public Adjuster
- Your claim was denied and you believe the damage is covered
- The carrier's offer is far below your repair estimates
- The loss is large or complex (roof replacement, major water damage, fire)
- The adjuster is calling storm damage 'wear and tear' or 'cosmetic'
- You're being offered ACV when your policy covers replacement cost (RCV)
- You don't have the time or expertise to fight the estimate line-by-line
When You Might Not Need One
For very small claims that fall at or below your deductible, or a straightforward claim the carrier has already paid fairly and in full, a public adjuster may not add enough to justify the fee. The honest test is simple: if the carrier's payment covers a complete, quality repair at fair market pricing, you may be fine. If it doesn't, you're likely underpaid.
The Risk-Free Way to Decide
You don't have to guess. A reputable public adjuster will review your policy and the carrier's estimate for free and tell you honestly whether you're being underpaid and by roughly how much. Because Florida caps public adjuster fees and they only come out of the additional money recovered, there's no upfront cost and no risk in finding out.
Rule of thumb: if your claim was denied, underpaid, or is large and complex, a free public adjuster review is almost always worth the 15 minutes.
What a Public Adjuster Does For You
A public adjuster reads your policy, inspects and documents the full extent of your damage, builds an independent replacement-cost estimate, files and negotiates the claim, and escalates to appraisal or mediation when the carrier won't pay fairly — all while you focus on your family and your home.
